Beware of the Size Discrepancies!

This is a great product for what it is intended to do — to provide a standing platform about 20″ above the floor for painting, etc. Much more comfortable than a ladder (which hurts my feet after twenty minutes). Beware, however, that the Internet is full of sizing discrepancies. It took me awhile to figure this out and I finally had to call Werner Ladders Technical Department to resolve them.

a) There is only one size Platform made by Werner in this design — even though you will see different Model Numbers listed. In fact, the Model Number shown here is incorrect because the “MP6″ stands for “Multi-Pack 6″, meaning there are 6 of these packaged in one box for distribution purposes to the selling Dealers. There is no Model called AP-20-MP6 — it is simply six of the AP-20 units, but you should understand you are not buying 6 of these at this price from this listing.

b) When you start searching for the different Model Numbers you will see different sizes stated — some leading you to believe that the platform is high enough to do comfortable Miter Saw cutting, etc. while standing. You need around 35″ to 41″ from the floor to do that — and ALL of these model numbers you find are referring to the same unit, which is actually only 20″ from the floor to its top surface when the legs are extended.

c) Going to the Werner website to check the dimensions only confuses the issue because — get this — the sizes they show for the “MP6″ are for the Shipping Package” — not the actual work platform unit. THERE IS NO 35″ OR 41″ TALL VERSION OF THIS PRODUCT. Anybody declaring this unit to be a “perfect height for miter boxes” is mistaken and must not actually own one. Subsequent Resellers posting this “MP6″ model are obviously not aware of that because this Model, as shown on Amazon and elsewhere, does not differ at all from the correctly-titled Model with all the same numbers, but without the MP6 added at the end. “AP” stands for Aluminum Platform. “20″ is the Standing Height. On all these units.

If you are looking for a simple, stable work surface on which to rest a manual or powered Miter Box (as an example) — this is not it. Not unless you want to kneel on the floor while cutting. Home Depot does carry a rather perfect split-table clamping unit made by WorkForce for $60 — on sale as I write this for $30. You must assemble it, but it is a fairly nice unit for the money. It stands at a perfect height for using a Miter Box. It folds up for storage. But it is not intended as a standing platform.

Great Tool!

I’m doing a number of remodeling projects on our retirement home. I borrowed one of these units & plan to buy one. It is great for projects where you need to get up close to a ceiling, like painting, etc. It saves your feet as you are standing on a wide platform rather than a narrow step on a ladder. You can also move a foot or two in either direction without having to get down to move your ladder. One of the reviews mentioned the platform had folded up on them while using it. The legs have swivel locks. I can’t see how that could happen unless they did not use the locks. Can’t blame the platform if you did not use it properly, can you? They also said it collapsed when they had one side on concrete & the other on mulch. Sounds like a risky way to set up a ladder to me, doesn’t it?

Rise To The Occassion!

The Werner Work Platform is one nifty household helper. It has room for me to manuever without straining to reach. No need for me to get out my Werner 6-Foot Stepladder for places that are just a foot or two out of reach. I’ve used it to put my cartop carrier in place and to put Christmas lights on outside. The Werner Platform was perfect for both jobs. Buy it! You won’t be sorry. It’s folds for storage, is easy to carry and set up, has safety locks to keep the legs from buckling and an end step to reach the platform itself. All features combine to make Werner’s Work Platform one of those items that you didn’t know you needed but wouldn’t like to be without! ~ The Boss
